Intrade in the WSJThe Early Line on 2008: Democrats are poised to retain their congressional majorities and regain control of the White House in 2008, early Internet trading suggests. Trading on Intrade.com, an Irish exchange ? put a 54% probability on a Democrat winning the next presidential election and likelihoods of 70% or more that Democrats will hold onto the House and Senate. While it?s still early and the markets will probably fluctuate wildly between now and November 2008, the early money suggests recent history is bound to repeat itself: A party has maintained control of the White House for three successive terms only once since World War II, when the Republicans occupied it between 1980-1991.
